2017 Cardboard and Duct Tape Boat Race

Participation is absolutely free. All “boats” must be made from ONLY corrugated cardboard and duct tape. No tubes or formed cardboard.

Rules and Information:
- There will be 2 age groups: 8-15 and 16 and up. You will be assigned to the age group of the oldest participant in your boat.
- There will be multiple heats of 3-4 boats. The winner of each heat will then face off in a final championship heat to determine the overall winner in each category.
- All participants MUST be able to swim well enough to bring themselves to shore if (when) their boat sinks.
- Boats must be able to hold a minimum of 2 people. There is no max.
- Boats must be constructed off-site and brought to boat inspection at 1:15pm on race day. Inspection will be held on the northeast corner of the park nearest the river (by the boat launch).
- Any boats made of *anything* other than corrugated cardboard or duct tape will be disqualified.
- Boats must be propelled by paddles or hands only. Paddles will be furnished on race day.
- Participants must be able to sit in the boat and may not be enclosed in the boat. When seated, boat may not be above participants’ shoulders.
- Boats must have sides. No boats in the shape of surfboards, skim boards or other single plane designs.
- Regardless of swim skill level, ALL participants will be required to wear a lifejacket which will be provided.
- Shoes MUST be worn. No flip flops or bare feet. Water shoes or sandals accepted.
- The race will begin on land. Participants will race on foot to river, paddle down river along course route, then exit river. The winner will be the first team to exit the water and carry their boat to the finish line.
- A dumpster will be provided for all boats after the race. ALL TRASH must be in the dumpster at the end of the race.
- Prizes will be awarded in each age group for: Fastest time, Best Decorated Vessel and “The Titanic Award” for most spectacular sinker!
